چکیده
Abstract Coastal areas are extremely sensitive to variations in environmental conditions. The interaction of marine and continental processes causes a high degree dynamism, generating depositional formations great value for palaeoenvironmental reconstruction. This paper focuses on two pedostratigraphic deposits located under the current beach, close proximity archaeological tumuli Areoso Island (Ría de Arousa, NW Iberian Peninsula). Employing geoarchaeological approach, sea-level rise, conditions human occupation over 6000-year period interpreted. results granulometric mineralogical data, elemental composition stratigraphic features, help identify three successive environments: (rock weathering, soil formation erosion); transition coastal environment; establishment full geomorphological evolution last 6.0 kyr BP has been controlled by climate, rise activity. facies shows evidence low up 4.8 first after 3.2 BP. متن کاملIberian Peninsula and Balearic Island Bathynellacea (Crustacea, Syncarida) database
This is the first published database of Bathynellacea. It includes all data of bathynellids (Crustacea, Bathynellacea) collected in the last 64 years (1949 to 2013) on the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Island. The samples come from groundwater (caves, springs, wells and hyporrheic habitat associated rivers) from both sampling campaigns and occasional sampling conducted throughout the Iberian P...
متن کاملFour new records of stranded Kemp’s ridley turtle Lepidochelys kempii in the NW Iberian Peninsula
Background: The critically endangered Kemp’s ridley turtle (Lepidochelys kempii) has a reduced distribution range concentrated in the Gulf of Mexico and only a few pelagic stage juveniles occasionally strand on European coasts. In the study area only three individuals have been recorded previously, most recently in 2001. Results: Four new records of Kemp’s ridley turtle are reported from the no...
متن کاملInfluence of teleconnection patterns on precipitation variability and on river flow regimes in the Miño River basin (NW Iberian Peninsula)
The influence of the most representative winter patterns of atmospheric variation in the Northern Hemisphere on precipitation variability and on river flow regimes was evaluated for the Miño River basin (NW Iberian Peninsula). The Arctic Oscillation (AO) was also considered in order to analyze the effect of a larger-scale atmospheric mode on precipitation and river flow. Precipitation data were...
متن کاملVertical biogenic particle flux in a western Galician ria (NW Iberian Peninsula)
Fluxes of particulate pelagic material were measured in the Pontevedra Ría (northwest Spain) using sediment traps moored at the base of the photic zone, deployed for 24 h periods from February to June 1998. Measurements of water column hydrography, chlorophyll, primary production and phytoplankton were taken. Samples were divided into low, moderate and high productivity periods, according to ph...
